During my trip to the Dominican Republic, my team and I were taken to several villages where CUPS mission has built relationships and begun ministries, and we walked through the narrow paths between the houses. As we walked from house to house, we introduced who we were and were immediately invited into the humble homes of these beautiful, yet impoverished, people. After spending some time in conversation, we asked if and how we could pray for them. Their requests were for protection for themselves and their family members, for healing from the loss of loved ones, for strength to endure the separation of mothers and fathers and children due to deportation to places where they had no family or support. Not one asked for better housing or more food; although we did offer them rice and oil in addition to our heartfelt prayers for which they were extremely grateful. In addition, I have been studying Spanish for about six years and had the great privilege of praying for and translating my team members’ prayers into Spanish! What an absolute joy to pray over these beautiful souls in their own language, lifting them up to the Father, and to share the love and care of Jesus!!! This experience has changed my life, and I know it would do the same for others who are willing to get out of their comfort zone and be available to be used by the Holy Spirit to share the good news of the Gospel!! Lives are being saved and whole communities are being transformed!!
My son and I went on this trip. Authentic Christianity lived out. The trip lit a fire in both of us! Praise God!
